Works with Govee smart lights
Light up the room when your team scores
Connect your Govee lights once and they flash in your team's colors the moment a touchdown posts - with the page open or with everything closed. Pick the lights, pick the plays, set quiet hours, done.
Govee Developer API Not connected yet. Follow the four steps below - it takes about five minutes, most of it waiting for the Govee email.
Get your Govee API key
A Govee API key lets GameSound talk to the lights on your Govee account and nothing else. Govee sends it to you by email; it is free.
- Open the Govee Home app on your phone.
- Tap your profile icon (bottom right), then the gear (Settings) at the top.
- Tap Apply for API Key.
- Enter your name and, as the reason, "GameSound score alerts". Submit.
- Check your email - the key arrives within a few minutes. Copy it.
Stored encrypted on GameSound's alert service, used only to flash the lights you choose, deleted the moment you tap Disconnect. To revoke it yourself, generate a new key in the Govee app.
Pick the lights that flash
Every light on your Govee account shows up here by the name you gave it in the app. Tick the ones that should flash - the living room lamp, not the porch. Up to 25.
Which lights work
- Wi-Fi lights - bulbs, lamps and strips that the Govee app reaches over Wi-Fi. A Bluetooth-only light is listed too but never flashes: the internet cannot reach it.
- Lights showing a color or a Govee scene. They flash and go back to exactly that afterwards.
- Not lights synced to a PC screen by Govee Desktop (the monitor strip). Those flash, then stay on a solid color until you switch DreamView off and on in Govee Desktop - leave them unticked.
- Smart plugs - a lamp on a Govee plug blinks off and on (no colors, no scenes).
Once you are connected, every light loads here each visit with the saved ones ticked. Reload my lights fetches the list again (no key needed).
Paste your key and tap Find my lights.
Choose the plays and the flash
Each flash is half a second. Afterwards every light goes back to how it was - off stays off, a scene or the Govee app's DreamView comes back on. (The one exception is a light synced to a PC screen by Govee Desktop - see "Which lights work" in step 2.)
Quiet hours, then save
Which games flash is decided by the teams and games you follow on the home page - the same follows that sound the horn. Two scores within 20 seconds count as one flash.
Save first, then Test lights runs the flash on the lights you ticked, right now.
Good to know
- How fast?
- With GameSound open on any device the lights flash within about ten seconds of the score posting; with everything closed, within about a minute. Both happen automatically once you save.
- Google Home, Alexa, anything else?
- They keep working as before. GameSound talks to Govee directly, so no routine or hub is needed here. For everything that is not Govee, Chat alerts posts every score to Discord, Slack, Telegram or a webhook your hub can catch.
- Lights without color?
- White-only bulbs flash by brightness instead, and a lamp on a Govee smart plug blinks off and on. Everything else is the same.
- A scene instead of a flash?
- Choose "Run a Govee scene" in step 3 and pick a scene beside each light in step 2. The scene plays for as long as the flash would have, then the light goes back to how it was. Only the scenes Govee lists for that light are offered; a light with none flashes its colors.
- A light that never flashes?
- It is almost certainly Bluetooth-only: Govee's cloud says "success" and the light never hears it. Check its connection in the Govee Home app and pick a Wi-Fi one.
- A light that flashed and then stayed one color?
- It was being synced to a PC screen by Govee Desktop, which the cloud cannot see or hand back to. Switch its DreamView off and on in Govee Desktop to resume, and leave that light unticked here.
- Another browser or phone?
- The connection lives in this browser. Set it up again on another device, or just leave it here - the alert service flashes the lights whether or not this page is open.
