Discord, Slack, Telegram and webhooks
Send every score to your chat
Paste one address and GameSound posts a message the moment your team scores - the play, the score line, the play text and the play art - with the page open or with everything closed. A Discord channel, a Slack channel, a Telegram group, or any webhook your smart-home hub can catch.
Not connected yet. Follow the four steps below - it takes about two minutes.
Where should the alerts go?
Discord: get a webhook URL
- Open Server Settings, or the gear beside the channel the scores should land in.
- Go to Integrations, then Webhooks, then New Webhook.
- Name it GameSound, pick the channel, tap Copy Webhook URL. Paste it in step 2.
Slack: get an incoming webhook
- Open api.slack.com/apps and create an app (or open the one you have) in your workspace.
- Under Incoming Webhooks, switch them on and tap Add New Webhook to Workspace.
- Pick the channel, allow it, then copy the Webhook URL that starts with hooks.slack.com/services/. Paste it in step 2.
Telegram: a bot token and a chat id
- Message @BotFather, send /newbot, follow the two questions, and copy the token it gives you (it looks like 123456789:AAH...).
- Add the bot to your group, or open a chat with it and send it any message.
- Your chat id: message @userinfobot for your own id, or use the group's id (a negative number that starts with -100). Paste both in step 2.
Webhook: any https address your hub listens on
- Home Assistant - an automation with a Webhook trigger; paste its URL (your public Home Assistant address plus /api/webhook/your-id).
- IFTTT Pro - the Webhooks service's "Receive a web request" trigger; paste the maker.ifttt.com URL for your event.
- Alexa - a virtual contact sensor skill that exposes a URL trigger, then a Routine that runs when the sensor opens.
- Every message is signed: the X-GameSound-Signature header is sha256= plus the HMAC-SHA-256 of the timestamp header, a dot, and the raw body, keyed with the secret in step 2 - so your receiver can check the post came from GameSound.
Paste the address
The address goes to GameSound's alert service, which stores it encrypted and is the only thing that ever posts to it. This browser keeps just the last four characters.
Your signing secret. Give it to the receiver that checks the signature; it belongs to this browser and changes when you disconnect.
not ready yet Never paste an address you did not create yourself. Delete the webhook on the chat side and the stored address stops working.
Choose the plays
Which games post is decided by the teams and games you follow on the home page - the same follows that sound the horn. Two scores within 20 seconds count as one message.
Save, then send a test
Save sends the address to the alert service. Test posts a SOUND CHECK message to it right now, so you can see the card before game day.
Save first, then Send a test posts to the address you saved. Switch it on and off any time from Settings on the home page.
Good to know
- How fast?
- With GameSound open on any device the message lands within about ten seconds of the score posting; with everything closed, within about a minute. Both happen automatically once you save.
- How many messages?
- At most six a minute per connection and never two within 20 seconds, well under Discord's 30 a minute. A busy Sunday with every score on for several teams still fits.
- What does a message say about me?
- Nothing. It carries the play, the team, the score line, the play text, the play art and a link back to GameSound - never your name, your device or the teams you follow beyond the one that just scored.
- One chat per browser?
- Yes - one Discord, Slack, Telegram or webhook target here, alongside your Govee lights if you set those up too. To switch to another chat, pick it in step 1, paste the new address and Save; the old one is disconnected first.
- Undo?
- Tap Disconnect and the address is deleted from the alert service at once. Deleting the webhook on the chat side works too - the stored address then posts to nothing.
- "Needs the alert service update"?
- The alert service has to be on the version that knows about chats. Until it is, this page cannot save; the horn, push alerts and lights keep working as before.
